Opportunistic Thomas Jefferson softball team advances
Thomas Jefferson took advantage of four McGuffey errors in their first-round 5-2 win on Thursday.
It was not just the McGuffey fielding problems that allowed the Jaguars to advance, they also got a strong game from senior pitcher Alyssa Frankenfield, senior catcher Amanda Wrobleski and senior first baseman Taylor McConnell. Frankenfield struck out five and Wrobleski and McConnell both had three hits and a pair of RBIs.
Thomas Jefferson has now won seven of eight. The playoff win avenged a regular season 7-2 loss to McGuffey. The Jaguars advance to face Belle Vernon in the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals Monday at 4 p.m. at California University.
