"Last Friday's loss to Montour wasn't the end of the world for the Thomas Jefferson High School baseball team.

That's exactly what Rich Krivanek explained to his group soon after the Jaguars dropped an 8-4 Section 3-AAA game to the Spartans.

"Losing to Montour hurt," the fourth-year coach said. "Winning that game could have put us in position [to clinching a playoff spot], but we still control our own fate.

"We have to handle our business one pitch, one inning and one game at a time."

Thomas Jefferson was ranked No. 5 in the Post-Gazette's Class AAA baseball rankings before the loss to Montour. The Jaguars were 11-4 overall and 8-3 in section play, tied with South Park and Chartiers Valley for first place in the section. They were scheduled to play Char Valley Wednesday in a key section game."
