Senior pitcher wills Sto-Rox softball team to win
Sto-Rox senior pitcher Natalya Smarra is the only player on her team who has started for a team who has won a postseason game.
As a sophomore pitcher, Smarra led Sto-Rox to the WPIAL Class AA semifinals and as a freshman she started at shortstop on a Sto-Rox team who reached the WPIAL finals.
She and most of her teammates were also around last season when the No. 2 seeded Vikings were stunned in the first round by Fort Cherry. In a similar situation this year as a No. 2 seed again, Smarra would ensure her team had no chance of losing. She fired a perfect game against Avella and added four RBIs to send Sto-Rox to a five-inning 14-0 win.
The undefeated Vikings (18-0) advance to the WPIAL quarterfinals where Frazier awaits. The game is scheduled to be played Monday at 4 p.m. at Fairhaven Park in Kennedy Township.
