Photo journal: The South Side Beaver baseball team in yesterday's snowy game

Written by Cara De Carlo on .

The Rams lost yesterday, 4-3 to Seton-LaSalle. But both teams played with stingy defense and shutdown pitching, even in spite of the cold. Sports Town was there yesterday, and video highlights are now up (click here to see them). But here, in the meantime, are the still photos. If you think it looks snowy in the photos, wait until you see the video...

South Side Beaver senior nears 100-pin mark

Written by Ken Wunderley on .

Connor Payne has already joined one "Century Club," now he's shooting for another.

Payne, a senior at South Side Beaver High School, became a member of the WPIAL's Century Club -- wrestlers with 100 career victories -- on Jan. 5 at the Midwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.

"My 100th win came in the consolation final [against Montour's David Lyons]," Payne said. "And the tournament was held at South Side Beaver. I couldn't have asked for much more than that."

Payne has since added 12 wins to his total this season and boasts a 112-42 career record.

"Connor is the ninth wrestler in South Side Beaver history to reach 100 wins," South Side Beaver coach Jerry McCoy said. "That's something to be proud of -- but he has a chance to join an even more exclusive club. He needs only six pins to reach 100 career pins."
