Pitt opportunity knocks, South Fayette receiver Challingsworth steps in

Written by Mike White on .

Mike White tells the story of Zach Challingsworth's decomittal from Toledo to sign with Pitt:

To Zach Challingsworth, it was Rocket science.

Challingsworth was perfectly content about his decision to play college football for the Toledo Rockets. But when the team Challingsworth had always liked offered a scholarship, holy Toledo, it was a no-brainer for Challingsworth.

Pitt was it.

Challingsworth, a standout senior receiver-defensive back at South Fayette High School, decided Friday that he would accept a scholarship from the University of Pittsburgh. This was only four days after he made a verbal commitment to Toledo.

His decision to attend Pitt ended a whirlwind week of recruiting for him.

"It was tough for me to call Toledo back because I really didn't want to 'de-commit.' That's just not who I am," Challingsworth said. "But in recruiting, you have to understand how this all works and you have to do what's best for yourself and take advantage of the best opportunities."
