Shaler runner closing on record

Written by Mike White on .

Mike White's story on Shaler's Brianna Schwartz:

"Shaler's Brianna Schwartz heads the list of top 1,600-meter runners in WPIAL history -- but with an asterisk.

She could use her feet to erase the asterisk.

Schwartz will be one of the athletes to watch Thursday at the WPIAL individual track and field championships. She already could be considered among the best distance runners in recent WPIAL history and is on the cusp of adding to her lore."

Shaler girls were two points away from Section 3-AAA champs

Written by Cara De Carlo on .

“Unfortunately we ended up in second place,” said Shaler girls’ track coach Dave Interthal. The Titans lost to North Allegheny 76-74 on April 15.

“At the NA meet their kids really performed very well,” said Interthal. “On that day we won 12 events and they won six, but they had all but two second place finishes.”

The Shaler girls were able to get second in the 100-meter dash and also the long jump.

“We won [April 23] by 80 points over North Hills and 78 over Fox Chapel,” said Interthal, noting that the  Shaler girls have accomplished much this season. “We won by over 50 over Seneca Valley and over 50 against Butler. Those two are really solid programs.”

Shaler is competing today at West Mifflin versus Gateway, Hampton, Latrobe, and Uniontown.
