Foul trouble costs Shaler in Class AAAA basketball quarterfinals

Brad Everett has the story on Shaler's loss to Erie Cathedral Prep in the PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinals.

"SHARON, Pa. -- Shaler had triumphed in its past two PIAA playoff games despite the absence of standout center J.P. Holtz, who had a season-ending foot injury in the team's preliminary-round win.

On Saturday, the Titans played the majority of a game without star guard Geno Thorpe.

Playing with Thorpe on the bench most of the time was too tough to overcome.

Thorpe was saddled with foul trouble throughout and, despite a gutsy comeback effort, Shaler was defeated by District 10 champion Erie Cathedral Prep, 52-49, in a PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinal game at Sharon High School."
