Shady Side Academy girls' tennis team falls in PIAA Class AAA quarters

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

Prior to this season, Shady Side Academy had made the PIAA state championship match five of the past six seasons, winning it all in 2007 and 2010.

But there was no finals appearance for the Indians this season, as they lost to District 1 champion Wissahickon, 5-0, Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club

The 2012 version of the Indians was very young, with freshmen Emma Perelman and Lindsey Miller starting at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.

In fact, the team wasn’t even favored to get back to states, but it upset North Allegheny in the WPIAL semifinals to sew up their eighth straight appearance at the state tournament. SSA lost to eventual state champion Peters Township in the WPIAL championship match.
