The No. 3 team in Laxpower.com's regional rankings for high school girls lacrosse teams will be watching the PIAA Division 1 girls playoffs from the sidelines.

Losers of just two games during the regular season -- to the same opponent -- the Shady Side Academy girls lacrosse team saw its 2012 season come to a painful conclusion with successive losses to to Pine-Richland and Mt. Lebanon in the WPIAL Division 1 girls lacrosse tournament.

The Indians' WPIAL title hopes ended with a 16-11 loss to Pine-Richland in the WPIAL semifinals. The loss ended the Indians' PIAA hopes as just the champion and runner-up advance to the statewide playoffs. Still, the team participated in a consolation game against Mt. Lebanon. The Blue Devils captured a 16-13 victory over the Indians.

The win gave Mt. Lebanon some satisfaction as the Blue Devils had lost to Shady Side 12-10 in the regular season.
Prior to the playoffs, the Indians had fallen by scores of 17-10 and 14-13 in overtime to Peters Township, which captured its fourth WPIAL championship with a 21-18 victory over Pine-Richland.
