With WPIAL title in tow, Shady Side pursues PIAA tennis championship

"With WPIAL title in tow, Shady Side sets sights on a PIAA championship

For four of Shady Side Academy's starters, the WPIAL Class AAA boys tennis team championship earned Friday was a first.

For Vivek Nimgaonkar, Alok Nimgaonkar and Aaron Budd, it was the second they were starters for over the past three years.

For all of the Indians, there's still some unfinished business.

"I think our goal from the beginning is we had our eyes on the state tournament," coach Tom Mercer said not long after Shady Side Academy defeated Mt. Lebanon, 3-2, to win the WPIAL title this past Friday at North Allegheny."
