Sewickley Academy was defeated in the WPIAL Class A semifinals but now the Panthers will get another shot to play for a championship, this time in the PIAA semifinals.

They hardly looked like a third-place team in dispatching District 10 champion Mercer 2-1 and WPIAL champion Riverside 2-1. Sewickley Academy faces District 3's Biglerville (17-7-1) tonight at Hollidaysburg at 6.

The Panthers dominated during the regular season, running up an 18-0-1 record. They were the top seed in the WPIAL playoffs and had easy times shutting out California 8-0 and Carlynton 4-0 before falling to Greensburg Central Catholic 2-1.

It managed to post another shutout in the WPIAL consolation game, a 3-0 win against Serra. The win qualified the Panthers for the PIAA playoffs as the third-place team from the WPIAL.
