Alumni Update - Kelly Nickerson (Gannon)

NickersonKellyGannon senior women's golfer Kelly Nickerson, a Seton-LaSalle High school graduate, was named named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 women's at-large first team. She will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Nickerson secured her first career academic all-district honor with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA as a Sport and Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy major. Nickerson has been a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete every year and has received the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award the last two seasons.

In addition, she was named to the 2010-11 National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar Team and selected as the PSAC Women's Golf Champion Scholar this season.

On the golf course, Nickerson averaged 83.3 strokes during 16 rounds of competition. An All-PSAC second-team selection as a junior, she has a career average of 83.9 through 69 rounds.

Nickerson finished eighth at this year's PSAC Championships. She had two top-10 finishes and three top-15 finishes as a senior.

The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District II women's at-large teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The at-large teams consist of all sports except football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, track and field, softball and cross country. The first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released Wednesday, June 6.

The NCAA Division II District II consists of all NCAA Division II colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
