Alumni Update - Cory Mazzoni (Binghamton Mets)

MazzoniCoryCory Mazzoni is moving up in the New York Mets' farm system as the right-handed pitcher and Seneca Valley High School graduate recently received a promotion to Class AA Binghamton from high Class A St. Lucie.

Mazzoni, 22, has gone 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in his first two starts in the Eastern League. At St. Lucie, he was 5-1 with a 3.39 ERA in 12 starts.

Mazzoni was the Mets' second-round draft pick last year from North Carolina State and received a $437,500 signing bonus. The Washington Nationals selected Mazzoni in the 26th round following his senior season at Seneca Valley in 2008 but he opted to go to college.

Mazzoni has an 8-3 career record in the minor leagues with one save and a 3.31 ERA in 26 games, including 15 starts, in two seasons.

Baseball America ranked Mazzoni as the Mets' 13th-best prospect after last season.
