Seneca Valley football team to play at Notre Dame
Chances are that none of the players on the Seneca Valley football team will ever play a collegiate game at Notre Dame Stadium.
Luckily for them, they might get the chance to do it while still in high school.
Seneca Valley will drive to South Bend, Ind. Friday for a 7-on-7 tournament that will be played Saturday at Notre Dame. Coach Don Holl and his Raiders are among more than 70 teams competing in the tournament. Some of the games will take place at Notre Dame Stadium.
“It’s kind of a win-win (situation),” said Holl, who was the offensive coordinator for Pennsylvania in last Saturday’s Big 33 Classic. “You go as a group. They have a big-man challenge for the linemen. We take the 7-on-7 guys. It’s sort of a bonding experience. We just think that it’s a good thing to do.”
Seneca Valley should be strong again this fall. Last season, the Raiders finished 8-3 and advanced to the WPIAL Class AAAA quarterfinals. Senior quarterback Jordan Brown, senior running back Forrest Barnes and senior defensive back Jon Dorogy were all-Northern Seven Conference picks a season ago. Brown passed for 2,271 yards and rushed for 491, while Barnes ran for 1,181 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.
