Seneca Valley baseball team prepares to meet Mt. Lebanon in Class AAAA championship game
Two months ago today, Seneca Valley played Mt. Lebanon in a non-section regular-season baseball game. The Blue Devils won, 10-9 -- one of only four Raiders losses this season in 21 games.
Don't expect that result to have too much bearing on a rematch that has light years more at stake.
Seneca Valley (17-4) plays Mt. Lebanon (14-8) 8 p.m. Wednesday at Consol Energy Park outside of Washington.
"I know they're better (than they were March 29); I know we're better," Seneca Valley coach Eric Semega said of the Blue Devils. "They're very good; they belong here without a doubt. It's going to be a great game. They're a very good team that can flat-out hit. We've got our hands full. It should be a great game."
Seneca Valley has won 15 of the 18 games it's played since then, while Mt. Lebanon has gone on an impressive postseason run that has included defeating a section co-champion in Plum, an undefeated team in Norwin and a team that finished just behind the Raiders in Section 1-AAAA in North Allegheny.
"They're a very good-hitting team that is very well-coached," Raiders pitcher Matt Smith said of Mt. Lebanon. "It will be a great game, but I think if we play our game, we will come out on top."
