Upset-minded Senca Valley softball team nearly does it again

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

A year ago the tenth-seeded Raiders upset No. 7 Plum, No. 2 Hempfield and No. 3 Baldwin on their way to the WPIAL finals.

New year, new seed but same story this season for Seneca Valley. The team started its playoff run with another upset, toppling No. 6 Franklin Regional 3-1 in the first round.

Senior pitcher Emily Watson held the Panthers to one run to pick up the win. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI to help her cause. The Raiders nearly pulled off another upset two days later against No. 3 seed Peters Township. The Raiders were edged 2-1 by the Indians bringing their season to a close with a 14-5 record.

Seneca Valley was ultimately done in by a pair of two-out, running-scoring singles by Peters Township. The Raiders had a chance to tie or win the game in the seventh inning but they stranded runners on second and third base.
