Riverview senior works for state track medals

Chris Adamski, on the accomplishments of Riverview senior thrower Nick Delmonaco:

"Throughout the track and field regular season, Riverview's Nick Delmonaco had trouble matching the personal-best, school-record shot-put throw that placed him third in PIAA Class AA last season.

He peaked at the perfect time.

Delmonaco broke his personal best and Riverview record at the WPIAL championships earlier this month and then again at the PIAA championships this past Saturday at Shippensburg University. A senior, he took home his second consecutive PIAA third-place medal in what was his third and final trip to the state meet.

"He ended last year with a throw of [55 feet, 6 inches], which was his best and a school record, and this year we were struggling to get to 55," Riverview coach Dave Ilnicki said. "He was in a little rut in the middle of the season, and his technique was a little bit flawed. But these last two weeks when the dual-meet season slowed, we went over his throw ... For him to throw farther than 55 to end the season, that's pretty good.""
