Challenge stands in the way of Riverside softball team and PIAA playoffs
Losing in the WPIAL Class AA semifinals, makes reaching the PIAA playoffs rather difficult.
For Riverside (16-3) that difficulty is ramped even more as its opponent in the consolation game is section rival Neshannock (19-1). Neshannock’s only loss of the season came in the WPIAL semifinals, a 2-0 upset loss to Deer Lakes.
The Lancers swept the season series from Riverside winning 5-2 on April 14 and 3-2 on May 1. The teams split their season series last year.
Riverside reached the WPIAL semifinals by knocking off Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 4-1 in the first round and Mount Pleasant 3-0 in the quarterfinals. The team has won 9 of 11.
