Wilson weaves masterpiece for Riverside softball team
Riverside junior pitcher Kirsten Wilson had one of the greatest days in WPIAL softball playoff history.
After striking out 204 batters during the regular season, second best in the WPIAL, Wilson flexed her muscles even more in the playoffs. She struck out batters in Riverside’s 4-1 win against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in a WPIAL Class AA first-round game.
Wilson allowed only the one run and four hits but she did even more damage with her bat, hitting two solo home runs to all but single-handily defeat the Chargers. Riverside has now won eight of nine.
Wilson and Riverside now advance to the WPIAL quarterfinals to face Mount Pleasant on Monday at North Allegheny at 4 p.m.
