Bats give Plum softball team a puncher's chance
The goal in the postseason for Plum appears to be to outscore teams.
The Mustangs have not played in many pitching duels this season, their games are more adept to reach double figures. Plum has won a pair of 1-0 games early in the season but lately it has been first to ten wins. In ten of Plum’s last 12 games, the winning team had ten or more runs.
Senior outfielder Kaitlin Cliber drove in three runs in a 13-2 win over Woodland Hills last Monday. In that same game senior infielder Hunter DeShong hit a two-run home run. The very next day in a 12-1 win over Gateway, junior infielder Taylor Johns drove in three runs and DeShong had another two RBI performance.
Plum is 12-5 overall. It finished 9-3 in Section 2-AAAA to place second behind Franklin Regional. Plum has non-section contests this week scheduled against Hampton on Monday, Kiski Area on Tuesday and Serra Catholic on Thursday, the same day WPIAL playoff pairings will be announced.
