Pine-Richland boys lacrosse team's season ends with two tough losses
When Pine-Richland High's boys lacrosse team fell to border rival and eventual WPIAL champion Seneca Valley, 13-2, in the WPIAL Division 1 semifinals, the Rams still had a chance to continue their postseason with a game against Mt. Lebanon in the boys consolation on Friday at Chartiers Valley High School.
Much was at stake as the winner of that game would be the No. 3 seed as the PIAA Division 1 boys tournament gets under way with eight games on Wednesday.
It will be Mt. Lebanon, however, that will be playing in a first-round game as the Blue Devils earned an 11-6 victory over the Rams. It was the only time the two teams met this season, and the loss concluded an 11-6 season for the Rams, who finished as the No. 4 team among boys teams in Western Pennsylvania, according to Laxpower.com.
It was the first time Pine-Richland had appeared in the WPIAL playoffs. Since the WPIAL has been offering championships in Division 1 boys lacrosse, the Rams had finished with seasons of 9-8 (2011), 5-9 (2010) and 8-7 (2009), missing the playoffs all three years.
