Quaker Valley boys put on show at WPIAL track meet

Joe Koch has the details on Quaker Valley's boys' track team's successes in the WPIAL individual track championships:

"If someone asks Quaker Valley High School track standout L.J. Westwood to play a friendly game of badminton, don't be surprised if the senior from Edgeworth politely declines.

The two-time WPIAL Class AA champion in the boys 800-meter run injured his knee last month while playing badminton in a high school physical education class.

"There was a real possibility he wouldn't be able to compete," said Quaker Valley boys track and field coach Jerry Veshio. "But he did a good job in rehab, and it ended up getting better week after week."

Westwood recovered enough to win a second consecutive 800-meter title with a time of 1 minute, 56.48 seconds. The 2012 title complements the 2011 title he earned with a time of 1:55.65. A 6-foot-1, 135-pound senior, he capped a spectacular junior season with a PIAA Class AA championship a year ago at Shippensburg University with a time of 1:55.55."
