Pine-Richland boys lacrosse team ends Sewickley Academy's season
Nichols Field on the Sewickley Academy campus has been the site for many memorable games for the Panthers' lacrosse team. Last Wednesday, though, wasn't one of those occasions.
Pine-Richland, which placed second in WPIAL Division 1, Section 2 with a record of 3-2 and an overall mark of 10-4, traveled to Sewickley for a quarterfinal game with Sewickley Academy and emerged with an 11-9 triumph. It marked the third time the 13-6 Panthers had lost to a WPIAL opponent this season. Sewickley's other defeats came against North Allegheny (9-7) and Mt. Lebanon (6-5).
It was the final WPIAL game for nine Sewickley Academy players, including starters Rob Kendall, Charlie Carbeau, Hamilton West, Grant Abraham, Duncan MacDougall and Pat Edson.
Pine-Richland, currently ranked No. 3 in Western Pennsylvania among boys teams by Laxpower.com, meets top-seeded Seneca Valley at 7 p.m. Monday in the WPIAL semifinals at Chartiers Valley High School. The two teams met once in the regular season on April 4. The 15-1 Raiders eked out a 9-7 triumph that night.
