Pine-Richland softball team's playoff trip ends in heartbreak

Written by Nick Tolomeo on .

Last season Pine-Richland finished in fourth place in Class AAAA Section 3, just one spot away from a postseason berth. It was a heart-breaking way to end a career for the eight seniors on the team.

Finally this season the Rams broke through and qualified for the postseason, but that didn’t mean that when the careers of the six seniors in the Class of 2013 came to an end, there was no heart break. Actually, this one may have been worse.

Pine-Richland baseball team riding winning streak

Written by John D'Abruzzo on .

It was only a year ago when the Pine-Richland baseball team ended its season without qualifying for the WPIAL playoffs.
This year, however, the Rams are back in the postseason after completing an impressive regular-season schedule.

Ranked No. 5 in Class AAAA by the Post-Gazette, Pine-Richland (16-4) went 8-2 in Section 4 and shared the section title with Shaler. The Rams were awarded the No. 4 seed in the WPIAL Class AAAA bracket and defeated No. 13 Mt. Lebanon, 8-1, on May 13.

Pine-Richland baseball emerges as title threat

Written by Brad Everett on .

Brad Everett's feature on the Pine-Richland baseball team:

2013 0509 PR McCarthy"Unlike the previous two seasons, no Class AAAA team will enter the WPIAL baseball playoffs with an undefeated record.

Pine-Richland came pretty darned close, though.

The Rams will be among the favorites to win the WPIAL championship when the postseason gets underway next week. They own a 15-4 record, with the four defeats coming by a combined five runs. That's not bad at all, considering the Rams fell short of making the playoffs a year ago."
