Peters Township baseball team attempting to overcome tough luck

Written by Brad Everett on .

If there has been a WPIAL team more snake bitten than Peters Township this season, it would be a huge surprise.

The fact the Indians are still alive for a playoff berth might be even more of a shock.

Peters Township has lost 10 games this season. Seven of those– Yes, seven – have come by a single run. The Indians are 6-10 overall and 5-4 in Class AAAA Section 3, but if their luck in close games would have been different, they might be sitting pretty at 12-4 and 7-2 right now.

However, coach Joe Maize and his players have continue to fight and still have an outside shot of reaching the postseason. Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park and Mt. Lebanon would qualify if the playoffs were to start today.

The Indians kept their chances alive by defeating Bethel Park in – what else – a one-run game last Friday by a score of 9-8. It was the second one-run win in a row for the Indians, who own three this season.

Next up for the Indians is a game at Upper St. Clair Wednesday, followed by a home contest against Mt. Lebanon Friday. The Indians end section play when they travel to Canon-McMillan next Monday.
