Report: Perry football team welcomes Oliver players for 2012-13

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

In a June 7, 2012 report by Kelsey Shea of the North Side Chronicle, Perry and Oliver football are transitioning together. Oliver is closing with the end of the 2011-12 school year, so its football players will play for Perry next year.

One interesting fact about the transition was that Perry players will wear orange paw prints on their helmets next season. This will be done to recognize all players who will be former Oliver Bears.

Shea's report also detailed an Urban Impact event held at Oliver High School - the annual Steelers Football clinic. Fourteen Steelers were present at ths high school to run a football skills workshop for Northside youth. Perry alum Rod Rutherford (played for the Steelers as well as Carolina Panthers) and Oliver alum Ray Zellars (New Orleans Saints) were present.
