Alumni Update - Joe Bortak (Juniata)

Juniata freshman Joe Bortak, a Penn-Trafford High School graduate, was a second-team selection on the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-America team.

Bortakm who was named the Continental Volleyball Conference’s Freshman of the Year, was third on the team with 2.30 kills/set and posted a team-leading 122 blocks – an average of 0.88 blocks/set. His 318 total kills was a team high for Juniata, and his .492 hitting percentage ranks him second in Division III this season.

Bortak ranks 26th among Division III leaders in blocks per set.

Juniata finished its 2012 season with a 28-11 record, winning the CVC East Division with a perfect 8-0 mark and reaching the semifinals of the CVC Tournament. The Eagles were the No. 1 seed for the ECAC Division III South Region Men’s Volleyball Tournament, but fell to Medaille College in the championship game.
