Penn Hills softball team has look of section contender
With a strong veteran leadership and a strong sophomore pitcher, Penn Hills has the look of a contender in Section 2-AAAA this season.
The Indians were outscored 17-1 in two non-section games against Penn-Trafford and Valley but it turned things around to knock off Gateway 7-6 in its section opener.
Second-year coach Joe Healey believes his team is one of the top three in the section along with Franklin Regional and Plum. Penn Hills went 4-11 last season and 4-8 in the section.
“We’re young but we have veteran leadership and we have one pitcher, but she is outstanding,” Healey said referring to pitcher Witney Larko.
