Our Lady of the Sacred Heart baseball team's magical season ends

Written by Sports Town on .

Before the start of this baseball season, the hopes for the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart baseball team included the playoffs – the WPIAL playoffs. The Chargers definitely overshot that mark, though, as their season ended Thursday with a 9-8 loss to Bishop McCort in the second round of the PIAA playoffs.

In 2011, OLSH had finished with a 7-8 record but seven returning starters had provided reason for optimism and the Chargers made good on that optimism – improving the win total by a whopping 11 games to finished 18-7 after a 4-4 start.

In the season finale, OLSH committed eight errors and fell behind Bishop McCort 7-2 before rallying but the seven unearned runs were more than a late rally could overcome. Despite that disappointing finish, it was the most wins and the furthest OLSH had advanced in history.

Next year, though, expectations will run much higher as the team had only one senior starter – catcher Brandon Duerr.
