Obama basketball team to open season following “assembly game”

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

The Obama boys’ basketball team is scheduled to play in the 3:30pm matchup at the Bethel Park tournament tomorrow afternoon (Dec. 7) The game is against Butler, a great program from WPIAL Section 3-AAAA.

One more notable piece of information regarding the Obama/Butler game is that it’s the second of the tournament. This matters because the first is what Bethel Park head boys’ basketball coach Ben O’Connor called an “assembly game” – it’s actually a school assembly.  The entire student body of Bethel Park as well as fans from surrounding areas will be in attendance for the 1:30 game. So, those fans who decide to stay for more of the tournament will be around to watch the Eagles take on the Golden Tornado. If Obama Academy students and other Eagles’ fans are able to travel to Bethel, the Blackhawks’ recently renovated gym should be packed. This is especially true if Butler’s fans make the trip.
