Obama Academy athletes won offices in State civics function last weekend

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

This past weekend, 25 Obama Academy students made a round trip to Harrisburg to participate in Youth and Government (YAG). YAG is a YMCA-organized convention that allows high school students to take on all types of state governmental roles.

The convention takes students from all over the state, but three lofty offices were actually won by Obama Academy athletes:

Youth Governor – Swim team distance freestyler Erik Rauterkus
Editor in Chief – Volleyball Setter/outside hitter Anna Vitti
Lieutenant Governor –Swimmer/water polo player Ben Junker

It should also be noted that there are only five main leadership positions to which YAG students from all over Pennsylvania can be elected. The fact that Obama athletes took three out of these five is a major victory for all Obama students who attended the convention. This is because the YAG elected officials become such with the help of many students who hold YAG staff and support positions.

Lastly, it should be noted that the information in this post has been extracted from an Obama Eagle report by another Obama Academy athlete. Angela Perfetti is well-known as a veteran sweeper from this year’s City champion soccer team. To read Perfetti’s full report in the Eagle, click here.
