City League Boys’ Volleyball has begun, Obama program still strong

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

In the past, Schenley has had a dominant volleyball program. It's won City volleyball championships back through the 2005-2006 school year. The evolution from Schenley to Obama does not appear to have changed the strength of the volleyball team. In Monday’s opener against Carrick, the varsity team defeated the Raiders 25-12 (according to a report in the Obama Eagle. Click here and a new window will open for you to read the full report.)

The report also noted that this spring’s Eagles are led by Coach Vitti, who also led the fall (girls’) Eagles volleyball team to City victory. The girls’ volleyball team went on to face Seneca Valley at Brashear high school in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA playoffs. At that time, the Eagles were swept 3-0.

In 2011 boys’ volleyball, the City Champion Schenley team played Montour in the first round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs. Montour swept Schenley 3-0.

Obama is playing Allderdice today (April 12). The first round of the PIAA volleyball playoffs is set to begin on May 29, 2012. The Championships are scheduled to begin June 1, 2012. Boys’ volleyball City League Championships are set for May 16, 2012.
