Obama Academy scored one for the City League.

City League boys basketball teams lost 34 of 41 meetings with WPIAL teams in the regular season.

But Obama Academy, the City League runner-up, came through against the WPIAL with the stakes raised.

Dante Forte's field goal with 2.5 seconds left gave the Eagles a 56-54 win against Butler in a PIAA Class AAAA boys basketball preliminary round game Tuesday night.

Forte had 15 points to lead Obama (17-6). DeAndre Byrd added 12 points and D.J. Porter 10.

Cody West had 15 points for the host Golden Tornado (13-13), which was a surprise WPIAL semifinalist for the second consecutive season.

All games played Tuesday were preliminary round contests. Winners advanced to first-round games Friday or Saturday.
