Oakland Catholic lacrosse team's fate lies with Shady Side Academy showdown

Written by Joe Koch on .

Oakland Catholic High's playoff hopes took a hit with a 16-8 setback to No. 1 Peters Township last Friday. While all is not lost for the Eagles (5-5 overall, 3-5 WPIAL Division 1, Section 1), there is the matter of playing yet another difficult opponent after the loss to the Indians.

Looming next is Tuesday's regular-season finale with Shady Side Academy, the No. 3 girls team in the WPIAL as determined by Laxpower. com.

It is the second meeting of the year between the two teams. Back on April 17, Shady Side Academy defeated Oakland Catholic, 14-9. Shady Side is currently second in WPIAL Division 1, Section 1 with a record of 6-2. Peters Township has the outright lead with a 6-1 mark.

Mt. Lebanon is third at 6-3, while Oakland Catholic is in fourth at 3-5. A win over Shady Side Academy would give the Eagles outright possession of fourth place and a berth in the WPIAL Division 1 playoffs. A loss could potentially drop the Eagles into a tie with Seton-LaSalle, which has a section record of 2-6. The Rebels have their hands full, though, with a home game on Tuesday against top-ranked and section leader Peters Township (11-2, 6-1).
