Alumni Update - Tommy Shirley (Lexington Legends)

Tommy Shirley finally seems over a knee injury that had stalled his professional career.

After spending the first 2 1/2 months of the season rehabbing at the Houston Astros' spring training facility in Kissimmee, Fla., the Norwin High School graduate is now pitching at low Class A Lexington in the South Atlantic League.

Shirley, 23, has gone 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two relief appearances with Lexington. That came after he was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three games with Tri-City in the New York-Penn League.

Shirley was the Astros' ninth-round draft pick in 2010 from Xavier and signed for a $100,000 bonus. He has a career 1-1 record in the minor leagues with a 1.22 ERA in 15 games, eight starts.
