Late-season win a confidence booster for Norwin softball team
On May 3 Norwin defeated Penn-Trafford by ten runs to clinch a share of the Section 1-AAAA title, the first in program history. Four days later Norwin lost by ten runs to Hempfield in a section game that gave Hempfield a share of the section title.
The Knights still had the section title, but the team's confidence took a big hit and their seeding too. Hempfield landed the No. 2 seed while Norwin was awarded the No. 4 seed. Hempfield had started the season 12-1 but lost two of four down the stretch.
In the regular-season finale Norwin appeared to right the ship. The Knights won 7-2 at Mount Pleasant, the No. 4 ranked team in Class AA.
They won the game without starting pitcher, junior Jamie Robinson. First-year coach Andy Phipps decided to throw freshman Hannah O'Block instead.
