Hockey: East Game of the Week - Butler at Norwin

Written by Chris Adamski on .

Butler at Norwin, 6:15 p.m. Friday, Center Ice Delmont

By the time the Knights (10-9-2) face off against the Golden Tornado (1-20), the contest will be one of only two remaining in the entire PIHL regular season that lasts about four-and-a-half months. It will be the final game of the Class AAA regular season.

It has been a long season for Butler, which has only a 5-4 victory against Shaler Jan. 23. But the Golden Tornado can play the role of spoiler in this one, as Norwin is playing for playoff positioning.

When the teams met previously Nov. 21, Ryan Boccabella made 25 saves for what was his only shutout thus far this season. Boccabella is part of a strong goaltending duo for the Knights that also includes Scott Cromling.

Norwin is alive for the No. 7, 8 or 9 seed along with Upper St. Clair and Central Catholic. A win would leave all three teams with the same record, with the least-penalty-minutes tiebreaker likely to ultimately be utilized.

The Golden Tornado's Tanner Gilliland leads the team in goals (17) and points (26). he has been held scoreless only three times this season -- but the previous meeting with Norwin was one of those occasions.
