Berner leads North Hills hockey team over defending champs
Brett Berner recorded a hat trick Monday night to lead the North Hills hockey team to a 5-3 win over West Allegheny.
Berner, who was the school’s leading scorer last season with 17 goals and 21 assists, has five goals and three assists so far this season and is tied with Tyler Volz for the team lead in points.
On Monday, Berner scored all three of his goals on special teams. The first two were power play goals, while the last one came when North Hills was short-handed.
Tyler Heisel and Hudson Fleming also scored for North Hills.
The win improved the Indians to 3-1 on the year, with wins over West Allegheny, Gateway and Kiski. The loss came against Hampton.
All four North Hills games have been decided by two goals or less.
Last season, North Hills was just 5-16 and lost its two games against West Allegheny by a combined score of 19-2.
