North Catholic girls' basketball team off to rare slow start
Following successive losses to Seton-LaSalle (78-45) and Bishop Canevin (41-24) in the Oakland Catholic Tip-Off Tournament, North Catholic will take a few days off before its first Section 2-A game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at The Ellis School.
Following that game, the Trojanettes meet two more section foes in Trinity Christian and first-year member Imani Christian before concluding 2012 with a non-section home game against Beaver Falls, a Section 2-AA team which defeated Conneaut 73-60 at the Blackhawk Tournament before falling to the host Cougars 72-30 in Saturday night's championship game.
North Catholic lost six seniors from last year's team that was the runner-up in both the WPIAL and PIAA Class A girls tournaments. One starter, Central Connecticut recruit Lauren Wolosik, returns. The younger personnel hasn't prevented Trojanettes coach Molly Rottmann from compiling an ambitious schedule.
In addition to a section schedule that features two games with perennial power Vincentian, the Trojanettes meet improved Fox Chapel in the Don Graham Classic on Jan, 5, visit Class AAA power Blackhawk on Jan. 8, take on Riverside in the Coaches vs. Cancer Clash of the Titans on Jan. 12 and play Fort Cherry in the Pittsburgh Classic on Jan, 19 at Ambridge High School.
That schedule likely will help the young Trojanettes grow up in a hurry.
