Alumni Update - Andrew Dobies (Somerset Patriots)

North Allegheny High School graduate Andrew Dobies finds himself pitching for Somerset in the independent Atlantic League for a third straight season  after being released by the Kansas City Royals in May.

The 27-year-old left-hander is 0-1 with an outstanding 0.68 ERA in 12 relief appearances.

Dobies pitched twice for the Royals' Class AA Northwest Arkansas farm club in the Texas League before getting cut. He was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA.

Dobies was the Boston Red Sox's third-round draft pick in 2004 from the University of Virginia and signed for $400,000. Baseball America ranked him as the Red Sox's No. 19 prospect at the end of that season.

Dobies has pitched in 166 minor-league games, including 77 starts, and is 28-30 with one save and a 4.28 ERA.
