Written by Sports Town on .

FedellAustinSlippery Rock University senior center Austin Fedell, a North Allegheny High School graduate, recently received Preseason NCAA Division II All-America honors in football from Beyond Sports Network.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Fedell was named to third-team honors by BSN.

The Preseason All-America honors came on the heels of being named last fall as an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division performer. Fedell was a first-team selection.

Fedell also received second-team Daktronics and third-team Don Hansen Football Committee All-Super Region One honors and earned a second-team Capital One Academic All-District citation.

A third-year starter for The Rock, Fedell played guard for two seasons before he stepped in last fall to man the center role formerly filled by Brandon Fusco, a sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2011 NFL draft.

Fedell provided the foundation for a solid offensive-line effort that resulted in The Rock scoring 29 points per game, the fifth-best average in the PSAC. The line's performance also allowed senior quarterback Cody Endres time to set SRU single-season passing attempts, completion and yardage records.

Fedell is among a group of 14 starters returning from The Rock's 2011 PSAC-West champion and PSAC runner-up squad that compiled an 8-3 record.
