North Allegheny's Divosevic among top hitters in WPIAL baseball
With a .525 batting average and 16 runs through the games of April 23, North Allegheny junior outfielder Jimmy Divosevic was among the WPIAL Class AAAA leaders.
Divosevic had the third-highest batting average among Class AAAA players on the list of leaders in the WPIAL and City League compiled by the Post-Gazette last week, trailing only Gateway's Dan Toner (.556) and Seneca Valley's Austin Bream (.528). Divosevic was tied for fourth among Class AAAA players in runs at that point with 16.
"Jimmy had a real good first week of the season... He's been our hottest hitter," Tigers coach Andy Maddix said. "Jimmy started last year as a sophomore in left field and also saw time on the mound last year as a sophomore. This year we moved him to center. He's not pitching as much, but he's really developing pretty nicely."
The only other North Allegheny player listed among the area's statistical leaders was sophomore pitcher Mitch Machi, who had a 3-0 record.
The Tigers had won five of their previous six heading into a game against Butler Monday. North Allegheny was 6-2 in Section 1-AAAA play heading into that game, tied for the section lead with Shaler and Seneca Valley. The top three teams qualify for the playoffs.
