There were plenty of missed opportunities for the Mt. Lebanon field hockey team in 2012. Coach Stacey Hart's Blue Devils hope to turn some of those missed opportunities into victories this season.
Of the five Section 1-AAA losses the Blue Devils suffered a year ago, three of them were by identical 2-1 scores to -- Peters Township, Fox Chapel and Upper St. Clair. The other two losses came against Fox Chapel and Peters Township by identical scores of 2-0.
Hart's team hopes to be a force in Section 1-AAA this season, but the Blue Devils start things off with a visit to Pine-Richland next Tuesday. The Rams are also smarting from some disappointment in 2012 as they missed the playoffs by a half-game. Penn-Trafford advanced to the playoffs with a 7-2-1 record, while the Rams fell short with a 7-3 mark. The Blue Devils will have another non-section test on Saturday at Hempfield before opening section play at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 against Oakland Catholic.
This team has plenty of experience with nine seniors on the team.
