Mt. Lebo hurdler glad she switched

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Nicholas Tolomeo has the details on Mt. Lebanon hurdler/high jumper Beatrice Goodyear:

"For the second consecutive season Mt. Lebanon track and field coach Ken Wentzel has watched an athlete transform herself from a beginner at hurdling to a WPIAL champion.

Last season it was Anna Simone adding the 100 hurdles to her events as a senior and winning a WPIAL championship as a first-year hurdler.

This year it was high jumper Beatrice Goodyear, a junior, making the transition to WPIAL champion hurdler.

Goodyear raced the 100 hurdles in a personal best 14.62 to win the WPIAL Class AAA championship, outpacing Hempfield Area freshman Maddie Holmberg, who had a time of 14.96.

"The time she ran was spectacularly fast," Wentzel said. "It was by far her personal best, faster than expected.""
