Mt. Lebanon boys tennis team's season ends in PIAA semifinals
In the WPIAL Class AAA boys tennis tournament, Mt. Lebanon fell one step short of what it achieved last season when it was the champion. The Blue Devils, however, made it one step farther in the PIAA tournament.
Mt. Lebanon advanced to the PIAA semifinals at the Hershey Racquet Club this past weekend. After defeating Allderdice in the first round May 15, the Blue Devils defeated Council Rock North in the quarterfinals Friday before losing to Conestoga, 3-0, in the semifinals Saturday.
Conestoga went on to defeat WPIAL champion Shady Side Academy in the title match later that day. The 2011 champion, Mt. Lebanon lost to Shady Side Academy in the WPIAL title match earlier this month. The Blue Devils only loss during the regular season was in a non-section match to Shady Side Academy in March.
"Three losses all year -- to the WPIAL champ (twice) and to the state champs," Augie Garofoli said. "You can't ask for much more than that."
Mt. Lebanon lost to Unionville in the PIAA quarterfinals last season.
