Mt. Lebanon embarks on PIAA boys team tennis tournament
Last season, the Mt. Lebanon boys tennis team enjoyed its WPIAL Class AAA championship a little too much -- at least when it came time to focus on the PIAA tournament.
At least that's what coach Augue Garofoli says. Having gone through a second-round ousting last season and after losing in the WPIAL title match this season, the Blue Devils should be that much more focused on the PIAA Class AAA championships this season.
Mt. Lebanon opens up in PIAA play 1 p.m. today against City League champion Allderdice at the Lakevue Racquet Club in Middlesex Township.
"The guys are pretty excited," Garofoli said. "Last year we went in a little over-confident; this year we're not going to be overconfident. We're going to be focused. The guys know it's going to be a battle."
The winner of today's first-round matches across the state advance to the quarterfinals Friday in Hershey. The semifinals are Saturday morning and the finals Saturday evening at the Hershey Racquet Club.
