Mount Pleasant softball team found itself in unusual situation
In the regular season Mount Pleasant played in five one-run games.
The Vikings went 4-1 in those situations. So the team hardly minded being in a close game situation entering the bottom half of the seventh inning in a WPIAL Class AA first round matchup against Waynesburg.
Mount Pleasant was trailing 6-5 heading into the seventh, but the Vikings bats came alive with their season on the line. Jocelyn Gula’s RBI single scored Paige Hertzog to send Mount Pleasant to the WPIAL quarterfinals where it will play Riverside on Monday at 4 p.m. at North Allegheny.
Shayla Landman and Hertzog both finished with two RBIs. Leigha Pehrson fired a nine-hitter while striking out seven to earn the win.
