Montour softball team catches fire to secure section crown
They started slow at 1-1 in section play and through six games, Montour had yet to separate itself from the Section 2-AAA pack sitting at 4-2 but then the Spartans caught fire.
The young Spartans won their final five regular-season games including their final four section contests to secure the Section 2-AAA crown with an 8-2 record ahead of McGuffey (7-3) and West Allegheny (6-4).
“I think the section was excellent this season,” Montour coach Bill Wills said. “Every game was a hard fought game. The pitching has improved immensely and the hitting. I consider us to have one of the toughest sections in the WPIAL.”
Montour concluded its regular season with a 13-5 record and now it awaits its playoff seeding which is to be announced on Thursday.
