Photo Journal/Video: Montour just misses overtime in 5-4 hockey loss to Franklin Regional
This week in Sports Town Hockey, we review the photos and video from last week’s PIHL Class AA contest between the Franklin Regional Panthers and the Montour Spartans. It was a fast-moving seesaw battle. Although Franklin Regional was first to score, Montour carried a 2-1 lead out of the first period. Franklin Regional tied the game and added one more, making it 4-3 at the end of two. Montour’s Nick White made it 4-all in the third, but Franklin’s Nicholas Cecere got the go-ahead at 5:38 into the third. The Spartans pulled goaltender Brandon Heitzenrater, but the Panther defense held against the extra attacker. The game ended in a 5-4 win for Franklin Regional.

The game took place at the never-dull Delmont Center Ice, where fans have been recently ejected by security for taunting. This game, a Montour fan was ejected by a referee for call criticism. The referee did not leave the ice to do this; he simply had a man escorted out by the security cop. “What, [the other team’s fans] can yell but not us?” the man asked as he was sent out. Following a Franklin Regional punch in the third period (which can be seen in the video here), no call was made at all. This caused another Montour fan to begin chanting “HO-MERS…HO-MERS…”
Cara De Carlo of Tri-State Sports and News had been at Center Ice all of the action. She took the following photos, and created the video which can be viewed by clicking here.
