More success could be on the horizon for Monessen boys basketball team
Monessen has made the WPIAL playoffs all 28 seasons Joe Salvino has been the head coach.
Making it 29 in a row and putting together another run at a WPIAL title could be in the cards a year from now.
Monessen loses four starters - Jalen Madison, Jaisen Irwin, Earl Pinkney and Alonzo Payne - but the cupboard of talent isn’t bare.
Leading the way for the Greyhounds next season - their first in Class A since 2005-06 - will be the lone returning starter, 6-foot-4 guard/forward Chavas Rawlins. One of the team captains this season, Rawlins could be joined by his brother, Justice Rawlins, a 6-2 sophomore who did not play this season after sustaining a knee injury during the football season. Both Chavas and Justice are being recruited by Division I colleges for football.
A trio of sophomores were on the varsity roster this season - guards Javon Brown and Luke Doptis, and forward Tyler Yuille.
The Greyhounds could also welcome back an old face. According to Salvino, Elijah Minnie, a 6-8 sophomore, might return to Monessen after spending this past season at Summit Academy, where he averaged 16 points per game.
